Engaging Visual Arts

Engaging Visual Arts are crafted based on art's fundamental knowledge: line, shape, form, tones, colour, texture, composition, perspective and viewpoints. These are the “What” aspects of the art form.

The essential skills to apply those fundamental knowledge lies with approaches such as overlaps, tonal density, emphasis details, scale, shadow, frame, staging, perspective, viewpoints and incomplete imagery. These are the “How” to develop the art form.

In addition to exploring wet and dry media such as pastel, ink, charcoal, paint and mixed media, learners can apply the above knowledge and analyse and evaluate their preferred approach in art practices.

Outcome of lesson

At the end of the lesson, learners shall be able to apply the art skills in the following aspect:

  1. Drawing proportionately accurate subjects based on observation
  2. Effectively doing quick sketches to express fleeting moments of inspiration
  3. Planning how to layout subjects in their drawing so that the imagery ‘speaks’ to the viewers
  4. Understand one’s strength and personalises their art style based on their capability
  5. Able to articulate one’s knowledge of art and apply it to their passion
  6. Organise and document a series of artworks for their portfolio to be used for admission to secondary school (e.g. SOTA)
  7. Become confident and engage in life with a positive attitude

Intuitive Watercolour Painting

Intuitive Watercolour Painting teaches learners the fundamentals of watercolour painting and its application with other art mediums such as oil pastels, colour pencils and pens to create a different feel.

The challenge of using watercolour is it is difficult to have control over the watery paint. However, if you let it flow, the paint pigment often presents as a unique stain which one may see as beautiful.

Instead of expecting young learners to exert control over the medium, this programme encourages them to ExploreExperience and Examine the versatility of watercolour and lets them recognise the opportunity this medium can offer.

Outcome of lesson

At the end of the lesson, learners shall be able to apply the art skills in the following aspect:

  1. Understand and appreciate the watercolour medium
  2. Paint a subject using wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet techniques
  3. Apply flat, graduated and variegated wash using watercolour
  4. Using a limited palette for their painting
  5. Develop good discipline and habits during and after the lesson
  6. Recognise beauty and opportunity in the process of painting

Expressive Portrait Drawing

Expressive Portrait Drawing is a course designed to impart learners observational and sketching skills that are based on our proprietary learning model. Our teaching approach focuses on “the one skill set that makes a difference” and learners are encouraged to express and apply the techniques they have acquired with creativity.

This short course aims to facilitate learners to explore portrait drawing in the real world and to rediscover the meaning of the portrait in 21st-century society.

The 5-hour-long course is suitable for learners who are new in the field of portrait drawing and they shall learn to apply the art fundamental that is essential for observational art-making.

This course shall also benefit learners who have existing knowledge in drawing as the content can scaffold what they have already known. The course duration can be customised and adjusted based on the needs of the school.
